DAMN thats fast.
ZOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooommmm
I was pondering a similar procedure.. like making a nice
herbal or green tea (etc) and using that as water in
the substrate preparation.. though im sure it wouldnt
be as crazy quick as this. *filing straw water tech in
memory banks for future use.. whirrrrr click beep*
Thanks for another excellent tip McMan!:)

I'm guessing any nutrient rich solution would be better than straight spring water. I definitely think you're on to something Mcman. Now where's my stock pot? ... six days is just sick. I usually have been waiting for a month with Eq's and Alien's tek. Rye and the good juice sounds like the way to go especially using colonized rye as an innoculant.

glad someone gave this a try and better yet a report.
It'll be nice to shave off 3-4 days with this method.

Yeah, I guess you're right, what's a couple of extra days anyway. As for pasturizing, it has never worked for me and now I always sterilize. A bit of a pain, but low contams. Maybe I'll try pasturizing straw with the added benefit of getting the nutrient rich broth.

just a silly ignorant question...
but could one theoretically use any of these "nutrient" juices on regular 50/50 casings to aid carpophore growth? extra nutrients are available to be pulled from the casing, but it would also invite contamination, no?

When the madness ever stop? It woln't until the psilocybe mushroom becomes extinct or the Shroomery is switching servers.
I tried that a few months ago and it failed miserably but that was propably due to a warped pressure cooker(not enough pressure). That water is super dark (from my experience; I can't see the pic for some reason). The water looks dark dark red if you hold it up to sunlight. I guess I'll try it again when I do some mo grain. But could this straw water pose a problem to the grain? Perhaps so. The water could be so full of straw solution that there is a good volume of straw solution and not as much water as you expected to be putting in there. What I'm saying is that the molarity of the straw water might be pretty high and thus per volume ther is say maybe 3 or 4 mL less of h2o. Could this be bad? Maybe. Is McMan trying to plot evil things again? Maybe. Will the madness ever stop?
