Shrooms - A cautious Newbie

Hello all,
I have some concerns concerning ?shrooms. Yes, I am a newbie and I have been reading info on Shroomery.org. And it really doesn?t have anything to say. My concern is:
? What if I eat the wrong mushroom? I understand there are countless mushrooms that all look alike. And that you only want to do ?shrooms with someone experienced. I smoke pot and it?s very good, and when I heard of ?shrooms, I know I must try it once. I want to hallucinate and just sit back and enjoy what it has to offer. And so, my whole concern is how will I be 100% sure everything will be fine, that I won?t take the wrong mushrooms and get sick and/or get food poisoning? My friends are paranoid that something will happen me if I try 'shrooms, and I want to reassure them things will be fine.
Thank you for your time,
~Sirus Felwyn

Eating the wrong mushroom is reserved only for those who hunt magic mushrooms. If you grow them yourself, or buy them from someone who grows them, you will not eat the wrong mushroom
And even with hunting, there are ways to tell if you're picking the right mushroom or not. With experience a hunter can easily identify a certain species from the lookalikes

If you ate the wrong mushroom you could die or become very sick. So you shouldn't go picking mushrooms and eating them without an experienced hunter (and remember lots of people will claim to be experienced when really they're not) or at the very least a guidebook and a digital camera so you can post pictures for identification in the hunting forum.
Your very best bet would be to grow your own (lots of info here on that)
Failing that I've never heard of anybody getting poisonous mushrooms from even the shadiest of dealers, so you could go that route. (That doesn't mean you should buy off a shady dealer, find a source you can trust). Chances are your pot dealer can hook you up.

Hi
Erowid has eveything you need to know about drugs. Check out the Magic Mushroom section.
If you have any apprehensions about doing shrooms, don't bother, mindset is so important when doing them. But...just consult Erowid, OK? It will help.

Dealers wouldn't poison their clients.
Although you might get sold non-actives.

Thanks all. Perhaps growing 'em isn't such a bad idea after all... Again, thanks for your help and effort and time .

A blue discoloration is a good sign
Maybe you could find somebody who has bought shrooms off the dealer and can verify that they're good? Or tell somebody straight up you're concerned about getting sold poisonous mushrooms and you'll buy them 1/8th off the dealer of their choice if they'll test them for you. I know I'd probably jump at that chance even if I didn't know your dealer.

I say just buy some, and eat them, and trust that everything will be fine, which it will, and you'll have an awesome trip.

when i grow, the mycelium, and then the mushrooms, are like my children going through their life cycle. Its sad when you pick them, but when you clone them the sycle starts all over again. I really put my heart into growing them now.

Heh, I've only had my one grow kit, which is now contam But I feel I can really learn a lot from growing them, like I say to my girlfriend (who doesn't really like me doing shrooms without her), it's a hobby, not just an easy way to get hold of mind-expanding drugs

yeah man, my first few grows had some wierd growth too. I had some orange shit growing one time. its frustrating, but the contams usually happen fast, so you arent too far in the proccess. In retrospect, I have only had contams when I use a certain vendor. The vendor was new at the time, and I havent heard of problems from them in a long time, so I do not feel it is nescessary to name them
Grow.
