Past agar work has been very successful. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...rue#Post1202501
Recent agar work has not demonstrated this level of vitality (pictures not available yet, since digicam is broke).
All procedures have remained the same (autoclaving time, preparation, etc...) however the earlier results have remained elusive. The only difference is the source of the agar. Has anyone else had noticeable differences in mycelia appearance on agar from different sources and, if so, which agar gave you the best results?

Yes PH from one batch to another can casue this (especially in homeade brews IMHO) Strain to strain can also be the casue in the differences you noticed . Temps also a factor . Also learn to use a couple of differnt types of agar , it keeps up the diversity . Is not good to allow gen after gen of mush to be used to only one type of food source . Good Luck

Perhaps I should have been more specific. MEA agar from one company gave exemplary results and agar from another company has shown decent results, but nothing comparable to results from company A.
I appreciate the suggestions about agar technique, but I am well versed in agar applications and the different variables that impact success when doing agar work.
More specifically... MEA from Fungi perfecti gave the results posted in the first section. MEA from another company gave less satisfactory, but still useful, results.
The question is: has anyone else had such drastic differences in overall vitality from two distinct suppliers? To the best of my knowledge all variables that can be controlled have been the same for both (type/amount of H2O, pH- although not a bad suggestion as it has been assumed that the H2O source pH has not varied over time , cooking time, etc...). I am trying to ascertain whether one formulation is much superior to the other. thanks for the replies
