I'll be starting my spring seedlings soon. Nice to see you get a good start. You'll be needing some Pereskiopsis to help those Lopho along.
I prefer starting P.V. leaves in soil. I picked up a leaf off the ground this spring and covered half of it with soil in a pot. This fall I had a 6" P.V. growing from the leaf. Talk about no effort required.

I was sent 20 leaves and do have most of them in soil. http://ethnoseeds.proboards34.com/index....559&start=0
But i tried to experiment with just water and they rooted fine as well. I had 2 in water but ended up planting the other one in soil when i saw the ones in the soil were doing better. But just left that one so i can monitor their development without disturbing the rootlets.
Yes i'm planning on getting a cutting or 3 of pereskiopsis soon .
Liveby, yes P. Viridis contains n,n-dmt and is one of the tradicional tryptamine admixtures in ayahuasca brews.

I usually root pv leaves on a wet paper towel inside a baggie inside a small tupperware container. P. viridis contains dmt and can be easily extracted. I still have a few pv berries left and some leaves if anyone wants to get into growing it. It can be grown indoors year around.

They are all dead . Except for the cacti and one Mimosa specimen. I may have let the soil dry too much or they might have needed nitrogen fixing bacteria. Will start more seeds soon, though.
I'll inoculate the soil first and be more careful not to let it dry this time.

wtf! noooooooooooooooo.!!
I dont like seedlings because its easy to dry them out especially when they are in small areas the soil drys faster.
I need to get an automated system so i dont have to worry about that.

It sucks to lose a batch like that.
Keep them in a small greenhouse in your house. I've never lost anything in one yet. I'll have to take a pic of mine.

When is a good time to take them out of the green house. I have had a bunch inside one and left them in there to beef up on the H20. now i want to get them hardy but still no signs of 4 leaves, just the 2 starting ones.

I did have them in a mini greenhouse. You can see the condensation build-up in the plexiglas walls in my pics.
I was just lazy, neglected them and the light dried the soil out a bit. I think the lack of N2 bacteria may have had a role in it too, because the soil wasn't tottaly dried out at the time of death.

so to fix this simply plant the seeds in a medium that has pea roots in it?

Hey, it happens. It's happened to me a lot of times. Letting them dry ot is the main way they die, for me at least. Too much light is sometimes the culprit with lophos or other dry dessert plants. Sometimes too much watering. I've grown m hostilis and other mimosas for a while now without having any pea innoculant so I don't think that's a major deal. They just use that to produce their own nitrogen but if you are adding some (but not too much) nitrogen ferts then they don't really need the other. It's nice to have but not imperative.

24 hour seedlings [Re: esin]

I don't know how, but these things came up 24 hours after I planted them. I'll include my process, if y'all can use the information. BTW I always use a light chamomile mixture as an admixture to tap water for an antifungal.
1. Nick the seeds on the sides, not the fat bottom, not the skinny top (correct me on this, but it worked)
2. Boil water, turn off heat, wait 4 minutes and soak seeds for 15 minutes.
3. Leave the seeds in a small container of the same water for 4 days. They didn't float, but it doesn't mean a thing.
4. Plant in 1:1:1 mixture coco coir, perlite, potting soil mix. Plant seeds halfway in soil and cover lightly with sand. Saturate. Cover with humidity dome. Flouros 8" from soil (move the light the next day to lower temp) 5. Maintain 85 deg F / 90% humidity for 24 hours. I'm lowering the temp tonight. 18 hour light:6 hour dark
Thanks for all the great ideas! I'd post pics, but I can't figure out how...

Hey Gemini,
Welcome to the Shroomery. The posts at the bottom you see are just for related threads. The one you replied to is from 7 years ago. A lot of people do it, but I just figured I'd give you a heads up.
