I think...  Make your own.  Be an original

But you're progressing along, I guess (nothing to bass it off of, just that clip, sorry).

you gotta mimic before you can create. NIB is awesome, especially if u ear the piece yourself. don't fall into the trap of tabs!!

everything.  way back in the day, players like rhodes, wylde, iommi,  hendrix, van halen, etc.. they learned by ear.  it was either you sit on your ass and play all day figuring out riffs, or you went out and paid 5$ for a tab book.  nobody paid the jack.  in return, they all got amazing ears and in turn learned to improvise like hell.  i used tabs for 3 years, and when I quit, my ear blew nuts.  within a year of earing tunes, i could tell you what key a chord progression would fall into.

agreed, tabs are alright when you're just starting but relying only on tabs for a long time hurts you more than it helps...

I started in a similar way, just used tabs and did fairly well growing technique wise for a few years,  but I couldn't improv leads or play anything really original to save my life heh.  all it took was one jam with someone who actually knew how to play and I dropped the tabs for the most part, took some music theory and started concentrating on learning and using scales/chords/progressions, playing by ear etc.  there's a LOT more to playing stringed instruments than just reading some numbers off a line :smirk:.  I still occaisonally go back to tabs to see how other people voice chords and where they play things when I'm feeling lazy, but learning by ear is DEFINITELY a better way to go.

tabs are not inherently bad, but if you use them all the time and don't know, say, where notes are on the fretboard, what a key is or the difference between major/minor scales and chords, all you're doing is parroting back music, not really thinking or learning about it.  this can work well for people that have good ears for music already, and it can help you pick up new techniques from your favorite music.  but if you aren't a natural and can't play whatever you hear or think of as a beginner, when you go to make something up thinking "ok this will start on the 7th fret of the A string, where do I go now? 7-9-10, 7-9-11, 7-8-10, 7-9-6?" is not as helpful as thinking "ok this is in the key of E so as long as I stick to notes from that key it will sound alright".  It holds people back because tabs give the player no indication or way to learn or see what they're doing, musically.

DH

correct me if im wrong but at the 49second mark,
there should be a bend, + possible hammer on/off,

your phasing when picking is slightly off
in some parts (studdering in the 35-36th second mark for example) im sure its just the runs, keep practicing those runs for timing & speed so that both hands are coordinated in synch. other than that, great job :thumbup:

A bend.

I havent been playing for long, which is why I began with tabs. Seemed the easiest way to get started. I know nuthing about theory, techniques, chords, etc..
