Magic mushrooms face ban

THE government today announced it was making raw magic mushrooms an illegal drug in the UK for the first time.

Currently it is legal to pick and eat the fungi but not to prepare them, by drying them out or brewing them as a drink.

This concentrates the hallucinogenic agent in the mushrooms and therefore renders them illegal. The move in today?s Drugs Bill published by new Home Secretary Charles Clarke will affect Scotland, officials confirmed.

It follows growing concern over shops and small businesses farming, harvesting and selling the mushrooms as a small-scale commercial operation.

yeah, that blows, but look at it this way, the u.s. treats it as if you are growing methamphetamine in your house. if that were possible. all of this over a smelly fungus that we decide to put in our own bodies....and then eat the neighborhood babies!!! muhahaha!!!

Can't find this news anywhere else...looked at TimesOnline, BBC, NewsNow...Hopefuly it's just media speculation...but still, it doesn't bode too well for us shroomers :frown:

If they did decide to actually ban it, how long would it be before a ban would be in effect? Any other loopholes do you reckon?

I hope it is media speculation too. What do they hope to achieve by doing this? It isn't going to stop anyone tripping. Are they planning to find and destory every single mushroom in the UK? God damn idiots.

What UK people need to do is take a print from every mushroom they grow, and give prints to anyone and everyone that they think might be interested in growing their own. If the knowledge and the ability is spread widely enough then a ban will be totally ineffective. Like all the little distilleries that got set up during the prohibition - the police could find and shut down big commercial ones, but little ones supplying familly and friends were much harder to find, and so much harder to get rid of.

I always stand by the fact that a ban on magic mushies would be a complete waste of effort and enforcing that ban would be a complete waste of resources because hey presto..libs grow wild, you can't stop people going out and picking em can ya?

There's an active Marijuana Eradication Project trying to (laughing ensues) destroy every single marijuana plant - so I don't see why there wouldn't be a mushroom corrollory.

Everytime I hear something like this, I can't help but reflect on how the world feels like it's growing smaller and smaller.

Stupid police-state governments. Choice is everything in life. Why the fuck won't they give us the right to choose? It's my body, goddammit, and *I'll* be the one to decide what enters or leaves this thing. Who the FUCK do they think they are?

I could go on and on. I'm sure we all could here.

Yeah, I know I'm preaching to the choir but it sure feels great.

This really aggravates me, so for spiteful pleasure I think I'm going to take a huge bong rip now and chill.
