Casing--MYC-MELT

Ok so i cased my first cake the other day with verm. The first very small signs of white seem to be very fuzzy. Some almost growing on top of the verm layer. Many are little fuzzy white balls? Then i accidently sprayed them before patching and notice the white melts. Does myc melt? Did i ruin it by spraying the white? I must say that the casing smells very mushie. Any suggestions? i have them sitting in my boiler room where the temp is 75-85. one is in a saran wrapped tin and the other in a plastic container with a snap on lid. Thanks

Yes fresh fuzzy myc will pat down when sprayed, just make sure you don't spray too much or it will get water logged and won't grow at all

well...perhaps you have some hardcore primordia and maybe that might melt....but if u spray once with a fine mister and it melts then yeah, im 100% positive...myc. would be stronger than that....

Fluffy myc, even with a fine mister, can certainly "melt" if not sprayed correctly. Stuff like this:
Turns into stuff like this when matted down with water:
Cobweb wont just melt, it will disappear..

Yea thats true as well, itll still be there, just exceptionaly flat...and my point with the mister was that he'd have to spray alot if it was fine misting to get the myc to be padded down as he described, if he used unfine misting then it wouldnt take much...gl

It looked much more like pic 1!!! But they were only very small spots that melted when sprayed (couple pumps) i then patched it up and gave it another spray. Hope it is ok. And on a cake if it is fuzzy toward teh bottom base of the cake could it be primidora? It is also fuzzy. I'm going to go buy batteries for my camera and post a pic of the cake. Thanks i hope it's not over quite yet.

Fuzziness has nothing to do with primordia. Primordia will form on ropey hyphae just as well as fuzzy hyphae. A cake/casing can get fuzzy after only a day or three of being in high humidity..that does not mean pins are near either. Fuzziness is only a sign of humidity..which is a good thing.
What are you talking about patching with cakes though? Cakes just need to be dunked and rolled, no patching required..thats only for casings.

sorry i was refering to cakes that also had some fuzziness on the base.
Alright so i found somehting that said h2o2 fights cobweb so i pulled out my cake with the fuzziness on the base and sprayed very carefully the fuzziness and i noticed when i looked closer that near the fuzziness were Tinnie TIny MUSHIES. i mean little the size of a pen tip. Some h2o2 got on the pins is that going to hurt them?

Different strains arent compatible..if you mix two fully colonized jars..either they would compete and try and kill eachother, seeing eachother as a contaminate..or more likly they would just produce small mushrooms because the networks wouldnt meld. Without that solid network (more like hundreds of small networks) you will get low yeild and small mushrooms.
You could put them both in the same casing, one on one half and one on the other and both sides would probably fruit fine but yeild in the middle would be lacking. If yeilds were any different then being cased seperatly, they'd be worse, so theres no reason to do things like this.
I hope you didnt spray straight 3% on there. h202 can cause aborts, especially in a large strength or amount. You also shouldnt just spray anything fuzzy. Chances are after only one spray itll be ok as long as you didn't spray to much. Either way it will survive but you may have diminished your flush yeild a bit.
