Disappearing Shrooms

My lawyer tried to improve his lot in mushroom production and began casing but the first flush of the cased devils are really skinny, why when dried they practically disappear! He was under the impression that casing them would produce a more "stout" lot, (poor bastard, wait till he sees these damn bats). I believe he is raising a strain called B+ but he is wondering if he has earned an F-. They do however seem (as I am told, mind you) to be rather energenic as far as numbers which pleases him.
Any suggestions or related experiences would be greatly appreciated.

What are the ingredients of the casing soil?
What was the substate used for colonization?
What are the conditions inside fruiting chamber?
I would love to help but I need more info...

The poor bastard informs me that he used "Jiffy" mix (whatever that is) and the substrate was brown rice and verm. from JLF (prepared kit), and they dwell in a Rubbermaid chamber with a humidity level at about 92% average, with a perlite bottom. He uses a "smoke maker" ultrasonic device for humidity and feeds the humidity chamber with a aquarium pump for a change of air while making the mist, which runs for about 4 hours per day. He also fans the damn thing once per day minimum. I was thinking perhaps the mist or smoke thing is blocking out the indirect light because it runs during the daylight hours 1 - 5 pm. It really gets only INDIRECT light, nothing that a green photosythesis plant could live on but he believes that mushrooms need only a small amout.

What kind of hygrometer is giving the 92% reading?
Many are inaccurate.
With all the humidity increasing equipment its hard for me to believe the r/h would be below 100%..
As for as the jiffy mix my friend has no experience with it however plain 50/50+ has produced some 9 inch shrooms with 3 inch caps (amazonian)...

The hygrometer is a Radio Shack type digital.

Are the walls constantly sweating?
Is it the type that has a remote lead?
Radio shack sells a combination therm/hygrometer with a remote lead. The thing is the remote lead only reads temp and the unit itself reads the r/h.. The entire unit must be inside the terrarium to get a proper reading..
I wish I knew what is in that jiffy casing mix..
Has anyone else had good results with it?

Jiffy mix is a mixture of verm. and peat. The Radio Shack thing has a remote lead but the whole thing is inside the terrarium. The walls are bleeding, I mean sweating most of the time.

If the walls are bleeding as you say and the temp is somewhere between 70F and 90F I can almost promise you the r/h is at or near 100%.
Good scientific grade hygrometers are hard to find and they can be expensive...
AFOAF is just using perlite for humidification. No real idea what the actual r/h is. Just as long as there are small beads running down the walls ever so often..He fans three times a day. Very simple. He has used all sorts of gadgets in the past and has had more results from a more simple approach

Turn off the fogger and let the pearlite do its job. The rest sounds ok.

i just wanted to add a thanks to everyone posting the usefull information, for when i can start mine it adds knowledge so that i have fewer problems when i get to start growing mine.

You approach the turnstiles and know
that when you get there you have to give
the man two dollars or he won't let you
inside but when you get there everything
goes wrong.

Damn thats a lot of humidity for a casing. Like dmb420 said, keep it simple. I have had success just like him, with perlite, fanning and occasional misting. I have no hygrometer.

let me add a few notes that were missed...
ryche has tried the "mist maker" ....he says it sucks total nutts, its a waste of your time, and  a waste of $50.
get rid of it.
the fish tank air pump can be left on 24/7.....
plain jiffy mix isnt sturdy enough to hold large fruits...they fall over...soo...for best results...mix the JIFFY-MIX half & half with verm. (a better 50/50), a friend has had killer fruits doing so, the largest he has ever seen...:)
you prob. dont have a pressure cooker, so i urge you to boil the casing material for 2 hours exactly.  -goodluck!
