    #3509566 - 12/16/04 06:04 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

If anyone can help tell me what kind of mushrooms these are. I found them on my neighbour's lawn under a tree. They were growing in the lawn grass. We're from vancouver, canada. It was in November we found these.

Good karma to you

cheek

I'm sure you already know, but just to reiterate all you need to do is go ahead and start a new thread. Just under the text box is a link that says "put pictures in post", click on it and then hit the browse button, select the image to be uploaded and hit the upload button, it should then display a lengthy code in the text box that you can copy and then paste to the text box in your new thread.

Alright, pictures! I don't have my books with me at the moment and the pics aren't the best, but a tenative guess is "sulfur tops" I can't remember the latin name. I have been seeing quite a few of these fruiting for a month or so now, kind of a common mushroom.

sulfur tufts" rather. The latin name is Naematoloma fasciculare, and they are poisonous causing gastric upset, that is if my guess is right.

hey this is the the person who posted the pics. I am curious how you all identified this. I went on the website and Naematoloma fasciculare, looks a lot different ie, mine had the kind of shape an umbrella gets
when it inverts, you know caught in the wind. All the online pictures looked like smurf houses, ie sharply convex. Does this umbrella thing happen with age or cold weather or something?

This stuff is hard.
What key features am I looking for?

The key features are spore print, habitat, and color, plus general appearance. The shapes of mushrooms change with age and growing conditions.

"This stuff is hard."

Yeah, that's what makes it fun.

Liberty caps can still be found in fort langley, vancouver yields very few mushrooms--maybe some cyanescens, but thats it.

hey liberty capper:

I am new at this. i went walking around the neighbourhood and found two types that look like liberty caps. One is sticky and one is not. One leaves spores and one not.

Is there anythign is a lookalike to liberty caps in the area, so I can be aware off?
