don't have hydrated lime...

i have to case my cakes and i have all the neccessary ingredients except the lime and oyster shell as directed in the teks. do any of you experienced heads think this will affect my yeild too dramatically? i try and find my answers without posting too many newb questions, but i couldn't find this answer in the teks. thanks for all your help.

are you using 50/50? peat has a lower PH than coir, so a buffer helps a little more. its not a huge deal it will still work. the buffer will help on the 2nd and 3rd flushes to keep the acidity down.

thanks man . i was just worried that i wouldn't yeild my potential without the hydrated lime as a buffer.yeah, i'm using 50/50. that is what it says to do in the teks, so i am going that route. home depot would have to order the buffer and that would take a week and my cakes MUST come out lest i get mucho overlay, you know? one of my cakes is overlaid here's a pic. what do you think, overlay? i think it is, but i could be wrong.

You can use calcium carbonate (crushed up limestone) as a substitute for lime.
