Ultrasonic and cakes..
    #3508996 - 12/16/04 04:09 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Hi,
I just finished dunking and rolling my cakes and now have them in my terrarium which is at 75 F degrees. The only problem is humidity, I only have an ultrasonic and can't afford a coolmist at the moment. I've been running the ultrasonic until mist starts coming out of the tub (Usually just a couple minutes) and then fanning. Should I keep running the ultrasonic until the humidity gets near 100% in which case I'm guessing everything would be soaked or just keep it down to around 75-80% as I'm doing now?

Also, does too many water droplets in the terrarium cause aborts?

Thanks for any of your guys help.

my guess is you don't have a digital hygrometer.

most hygrometers are inaccurate in high humidity and if they're not, prolonged exposure to it usually throws them out of whack.

i'd say the ultrasonic is creating great humidity, you just don't want to soak everything... find a good balance with it.

EDIT - sorry man, a little high.

just make sure there's not standing water on your CAKE. are your cakes dunked and rolled? if so, the light misting from the ultrasonic will give it extra water that it will take up through the verm. good stuff man.

Ideally closer to 100 for cakes. Casings make a natural micro humid environment for the area.

Fan for a couple minutes, then turn your ultra sonic on for a couple minutes afterwards. Be careful with that ultrasonic, oversaturation isnt uncommon with them.

Alright, thanks for your help! I'm using the hygrometer that came with the Holmes Ultrasonic Humidifier so I'm thinking it should be somewhat accurate. I'll keep a close look out to see if the cakes get soaked and have standing water, hopefully they'll pin by sometime this weekend :yesnod:
