Confusing ID

Anyone able to help a beginner shroomer identify a coprinus species please. I initially identified the first three pics as Coprinus plicatilis, but now have found what I believe to be C. plicatilis (pic 4) and cannot find anything in my research to match the first three pics.

pics 23, 32, 33: emerged in lawn overnight following rain and were practically auto-digested by morning. Pic 32 is the underneath of the fungus and the hollow stalk (cap about 3cm wide, light grey with lines on top, wet (could be from rain - don't know)...and stalk is slightly shaggy, snaps very easily, hollow, and about 5mm wide).

Pic 33 shows the top, with the black gills starting to curl up.

Pic "copy of": is what I now believe to be C plicatilis - found in lawn following rain (cap 2cm wide, light grey, lines in top, fine black rim on gills - stalk: hollow 2 to 3 mm wide, very fragile).

I hope this is enough info, and I know these are not active fungi, but am hoping that there is still some interest.

Pic 23 is neat, hey?

Thanks from an Aussie.

Unfortunately, there are a bunch of Coprinus species that look like those. The only way to tell them apart with reasonable certainty is with a microscope. If you know how to use one, this key will help you to identify your specimens.

Good luck. Those guys are hard to tell apart.

Happy mushrooming!

Thanks ToxicMan....no haven't got a microscope and don't know how to use one.

If anyone can direct me to any really good web sites on coprinus I would be grateful.

ToxicMan already linked You. Kees Ulj?'s Coprinus site is the best one I've seen on this topic.

If you couldn't see it, the words "this key" are where the link is. Kees Ulj? was the world authority on Coprinus until his very recent death.

the last ones look similar to plicatilis but could well be a different species.
