I just have a connection that would allow me to purchase cheap, for human consumption (not animal feed), malted rye/barley/wheat/whatever available to brewers.
Was worried that the maltose would be washed away during cooking and PCing, or raise the risk of contamination.

I am also referring to unspent grain, although I will be shortly playing with the spent grain in some upcoming experiments.

Well just as an update. I did a multispore inoculation of qt jars 1/2 full of unspent, malted barley. As of two days ago 4 out of 8 jars showed signs of life! I have noticed however that the germination speed is slower than what I expected. More updated are on the way.
