Fruiting chamber question.
    #3505218 - 12/15/04 05:48 PM (19 years, 3 months ago)

When using rubbermaid tubs as fruiting chambers would it be a good idea to cut say a 6 inch circle on one of the sides and use silicone sealent to affix a piece of tyvek over the hole to allow for some air exchange? Don't know if this would obviate the need for fanning but it should work to one degree or another.

i am not 100% sure, but i think polyfil lets a little more air move--search the Double Tub thread as the fruiting chambers are never fanned and have 2 holes with polyfill in them and work great...

Either way it's not going to do nearly as much as a pump would.

How do you go about filtering the air when using a pump. Most fish tank pump carbon filters will not keep out contaminents.

some put a small ratio of h202 to their bubbler jar to help create aseptic conditions with the fresh incoming air.

A couple small holes in the bottum of your tub will help alleviate condensation and heavy CO2 gases in the bottum of your terrarium.

For air to penetrate tyvek, it requires much more pressure than air penetrating polyfill does.

You can put the pump inside a small box and surround it with polyfil. Viola, clean air

Polyfill....buy a cheap pillow, and take a knife to it.
