Tub-in-Tub fruiting
    #3505730 - 12/15/04 09:13 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Has anyone used the tub in tub method for a fruiting chamber to maintain temps? I'm considering using this for mine, the old heat blanket is just too unpredictable.

Thanks

Yes, I have my fruiting chamber in my walk-in closet and first I tried a small electric space heater but that was REALLY annoying for a variety of reasons and just didn't maintain a constant temp. So I took that bitch back to walmart and got a submersible aquarium heater for about the same price as the space heater I'd returned. The temp in my tub-in-tub never deviates more than 2 degrees F. Part of the advantage with tub-in-tub is a principal called "thermal mass" where having a large mass of water at the right temp helps smooth out and absorb any temperature fluctuations. Lets say you fan your cakes and the chamber cools off a tiny bit, plenty of stored up heat from the large mass of water is there to quickly get the temperature uniform again. Same idea applies to why a concrete or brick building (which has more thermal mass) stays at a constant temperature whereas wood buildings are more prone to temp fluctuations.

Right on, thanks for your time.

I wish I saw that heater before I bought mine today, that remote control feature is awesome.
