Casing Fruitage
    #3503165 - 12/15/04 01:14 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

Pending completion of my Martha, I have placed some of my casings in my rubbermaid/perlite setup, fan them about 4-5 times a day...
Today is day six. Should I expect pinning to occur in roughly 7-14 days?

GT Strain, 2 inch casing depth, 60/40 coco coir/verm mix, alot of breakbeat & house.

2 inch casing ?? Thats awfully deep .
Do you see signs of myc popping thru ?
Do you see knots forming yet ?
Knots are the sign of pins getting ready to form .

Looks like you waited waaay too long to initiate pinning. You want to do it when you can just barely see myc evenly breaking through the surface.

Yea...I had to fly out of state, so they incubated for about 5-6 days. Any Suggestions? Total loss?

Top left one ... definte overlay goin on ... you could try recasing it , or scratching it (risky). Top right one get it in the light and lots of fresh air , it may stop vegitive growth , kinda depends on strain ... if Mals it will keep going and may need recase\patchings .

Never too late , in some instances , means real healthy pinset once you correct overlay problem .

A couple of those bottom ones are overlaying also , do same with them , I think one is deffinetly ready for initiation of pinset .

Good Luck

I initiated (or so I thought) pinning roughly 6 days ago. They get plenty of light and air.

the one in the top pic to the right wrap it in foil and cold shock it in the fridge for about 18hrs that should stop its veg growth. the others definitely need scratched and about 1/4inch new casing but leave the old in there too. also don't go packing the old layer down that could bring gas exchange from your layer to a halt. how deep was your sub? as a general rule I use the layer should be in proportion to your sub depth. for example if ya got a 1 inch sub depth case it with a layer of 1/4" for 2"s of sub depth 1/2 layer and so on

My sub was 2" deep, verm/coco = 1/2 inch.
I'm going to deep scratch the overlay where is bad. We'll see what happens.

Was there a drop in temp? If not then that could be your problem.
