your thoughts on Orissa strain

i always get amazing pinsets but lots of the shrooms end up growing parallel to the surface of the casing layer. also, they end up popping up everywhere but don't grow very tall and are usually skinny. hmm. maybe i'll try a bulk w/ a deeper depth to give those babies more room. i've heard they grow big.

It's a cube. If you don't fix your mistakes it will get no bigger then any other. Deeper substrate... more light from the top to make the straight.

too bad the anti-fungals in my storebought manure cockblocked them.
and sciopeneyedream...light is ample and so is humidity/airflow/temps. they are fruiting alongside of b+ and i def notice distinct pinning and fruiting characteristics.

I don't like this strain.
AFOAF spawned 5 quarts WBS to a lot of pure horse poo. Poo colonized quickly. First flush fruited prolifically. No monsters yet. Lots and lots of mutants though. Don't understand all the mutants and deformities. Maybe 1 out of 3 fruits displays at least a small deformity. Deformities did not result from environmental factors either as F+ and pesa was all cased and fruited at the same time in the same chamber. Stems are caramel colored. Strain bruises fairly lightly. Not as deep bruising as other strains grown on pure grain. I thought poo was better for potency? Takes a long time to recover between flushes. Second flush is displaying a disproportionate amount of mutants too.

I like OI's. Nothing unusual. I did rye and got lots of fruits..decent flushes..decent size..real fat asses. Hollow. Reminded me of Malabars but a little bigger. Smaller caps.

The mutants are not Orissa related, I think mutants has more to do with how the strain was isolated. Maybe they did to many g2g before or something? Also Lysol can cause mutants so "they" say......

O.I. are a small delicate mush in all instances when I have seen them .They do have nice pinset and minimal aborts but....... Only seen them done on grain then to bulk and same results , never seen them on just straw , maybe they would do better that way .

Is BEST substrate for O/I. Optimal conditions & big deep casings = bigger fruits.

Most zoo's sell ZOO DOO for compost & gardening. If you get elephant &/or Zebra.... it is good to go, as is - without straw addition. Lots a fiber in that crap. Just add some verm.

i think i'm too stupid to figure out synthetic compost :3stooges:. my problem with the store bought stuff was the anti fungals they fed the steer. wouldn't they do the same at the zoo w/ regards to the elephants and zebras?
