About casing etc...

First, is it better to pull the cakes out and grind them up or are the yields better if one leaves them in the jars to grow? Secondly, is it okay to put down a layer of perlite soaked with water then add a thin layer of vermicultie on top of that so one then could put the ground up cakes on top of that layer? A casing would be added on top of the ground cakes then covered with foil to let it fully colonize. Any problems or better experiences with other methods please let me know. I'm thinking about the "Sea of Shrooms" method. I just finished my second flush and my product is not to my satisfaction because I've had stronger and so the story goes.

i wouldnt grind them up just cut them into smaller squares because i feel that would shock the mycelium too much and i would just go with plain vermeculite on the bottom it worked fine for a foaf  he got close to 150 grams dried with 2 cakes in one casing

So cut them up into small squares? Also, I use a bubbler so does this affect any other process with maybe too much moisture?

Also, how much lime do I add to about 40lbs. of casing?
