Masking Tape

Does anyone suppose there is a permiablity problem with covering the holes in the lid with masking tape? Possible moisture escape from jar? Air exchange coming in?

Masking tape over your innoculation holes will retard air exchange. As for moisture content, if your cakes have a proper ammount you shouln't have to worry about it "escaping" and/or drying out your cakes. Air exchange is HEALTHY and NECESSARY for you cakes.

so you are suggesting not to tape up the innoculation holes at all?
kinda goes against the PF tek and Shroom Wizard's ("but never take off or loosen the lid"), but there is no mention of it in the MMGG.
What is anyone else doing?

Pay attention. I said nothing about lids. Neither did your post (originaly). Taking the tape off of your holes is NORMAL**
AFTER STERILIZATION** . Some do it some DON'T. Everyone has their own experience in this. But it is plain to see , and also quite logical, that you WOULD WANT to TAKE OFF THE TAPE on your innoculation holes**
