Ok so do I cold shock my brf cakes before i birth them into the fruiting chamber for the first time or is it only cold shock after each flush and not before birthing.

the purpose of cold shocking is to tel the mycelium to stop growing and to re-hydrate...most people do it after each flush and some do it b4, you be the judge

Edit:...its late...Cold shock=stop myc. growth and intiate pins
Dunking =Rehydration..
sry about the mix up, later

Cold shocking does not rehydrate at all, dunking does.

Cold shocking is done to slow mycelium growth to help iniate pinning. It should only be done after birthing and not between flushes. It won't hurt if you cold shock between flushes, but it will just slow things down..probably for about a day or two only but still. Dunking however should be done between every flush..add a little h202 in every dunk too.

Ok, i thought when you flush you put your cake in a jar with water and put it in the fridge over night, and then birth your cake the next day, so is that a combination of cold shocking and dunking? I'm on my 3rd flush right now and I dunked the cake and put it in the fridge over night after each flush.

dunk it after every flush. I wouldn't cold shock it cause that tends to confuse the mode of the myc. but a initial shock is always good.

I have a new question for anyone who can answer it. I have a 2 week old casing that was cold shocked for about 14 hours yesterday. How long should I expect it to take for pins to form?

can take up to two weeks to start pinning, but it usually takes 3-7 days in good conditions.

If you completely stopped vegitative growth, introduced fresh air and set temps to optimal for fruiting conditions. I'd say 2-3 days.

Could take up to a week, just depends.

I am wondering how many flushes you can expect with dunking. I mainly hear of three but I wonder if anyone has experienced more.

the mycellium still seems to be growing even after the cold shock. i have already introduced it to fresh air (well, filtered). current stats are: temp.70.5 F & 61% humidity. is this optimal for "mexi-cubs" ?

NO
Your humidity sucks, make it above 95%!
Spray a few times a day, cover with a lid, bottom 3 inch perlite/ geolite with 2 inch of water ini t.

how long should i expose them to fresh air without fanning. i don't have a fan. i do it manually with the lids. also the lids aren't transparent, but the tubs are (apart from the duct tape covering the bottom).

Fan them with the lid for 12-15 seconds every 4 hours, that should be enough, gl

thanx guys (and/or girls) someone gave me some advice to buy filters to place over the open tubs and leave the lids off for pinning and fruiting. obviously that isn't quite a good idea since the humidity stays too low even with misting.
