I hope this isnt a commonly asked question, i'd hate to get flamed on my first post =\ but here it goes... im going to be growing according to the mmgg but have a thought that could help them out a bit. does the 'cake' HAVE to stay in jar looking form? what if it was CAREFULLY broken up to be more like the ground (more natural environment i would think) and then let the 'shrooms grow as normal from there? (of course everything else from the mmgg would be followed)
You approach the turnstiles and know that when you get there you have to give the man two dollars or he won't let you inside but when you get there everything goes wrong.

If you are going to go that far, just case your cakes.

If you are going to break them up then why not just case them? It is very easy and your yields will be increased. Try coco-fiber as a casing, your shrooms will love you for it.

just in case your not really clear on what a casing is, i'll try and help out... (im a newbie too tho, so dont get mad heh) instead of leaving the cake intact, when it is time to birth, you form 3 (i think) layers in a container or something (lots of surface area needed). i think the first layer is perlite or whatever that stuff is, then you crumble up the cakes to make the 2nd level. try to make it as even as possible. the top layer can be a variety of things.. Cocoa-fiber was just mentioned, also 50\50, or lots of other things.. expereiment i guess so sorry if some of that is incorrect, but hope i helped ;)

thanks dogweazle that helped make some sence of the other replys, i was just getting ready to start looking around for this casing tech. i think just leaving them will be my best bet, in the begining anyway... i just wish the spores i ordered would hurry up and get here
