not sure on that, safe? probably, but probably has a nasty flavor to it.

I use small pieces of charred wood that i got at a local headshop, they work really well, minus the long warm-up time on the stove.

Sure.

Never play with hot hookah coals. I burnt 20 some odd holes in the carpet of a friends new apartment when I was poking one. I think I poked it to hard.

my carpet is trashed too.  good thing i recorded the fact that there were burn marks on it before i moved in (there were but i added quite a few).  thanks, krem i'm actually doing pretty well on them so far .

just so you all know, barbeque coals don't burn the right way.  the outer ash layer doesn't just fall off like hookah coals.  barbeque coals don't work!!

smoking is bad anyway :smirk:

this hookah thread reminded me of a dream I had a few days ago, I smoked some apple tobacco (does this exist?) out of a hookah because someone said it tasted really nice and I should try it. so I did and it tasted very nice
I bet it wouldn't be close to that taste if I smoked it for real so i'm not gonna try it

Apple tobacco is real. And cherry too!

You should hit that up, I think your sub-concious is trying to tell you something...

I've used barbecue coals before. Break 'em up into big chunks - maybe 3/chunks for a briquette. Light them on a gas stove, if you have one. Don't use quick-light coals or lighter fluid.

yumm, hookah.. i always buy a new pack of coals when i get some tobacco, so.. i have plenty of coals, they're cheap as hell.. so, its not problem.. but, if you must use regular coals, i suggest getting natural ones made from real wood and only real wood, no lighting agent or anything added..
