Birthed My Cakes
    #3497349 - 12/14/04 01:06 PM (19 years, 4 months ago)

I birthed my cakes 4 days ago, and instead of pinning, I still have rapid mycleammmkdfjdslfj(sp) growth. It now has covered the rolled vermiculite.

I dunked and cold shocked for 48 hours.. The only problem I can think of is that its to warm.. Tempuature in my room is about 78, the same that they were incubated in..

How can I lower the temputure? Is four days sufficient for pin growth? Do the lights need to be on at intervals (They get wierd light cycles, because of stealth, but they do get 12 hours a day, just in packets of ~5 hours)

thanks alot guys

Well I'm doing my frist grow and all my cakes took about 10 days from birth before pinning. I dunked and rolled as well and they overgrew the sides so I think that's normal. If there's no pinning by 14 days then something is probably wrong.

u r right temperature must lower. 78 is max fruiting temp but since u also incubated at 78 they think its still summer

Place in other room, or lower roomtemp, I feel very comfortable with 70-71 as roomtemp which is fine for them to fruit in....

The myc should be forming in little bumps.  You may think that it's still growing and should still be in the jar, but they will form pins.  One day you will look at the cakes and they'll have pins on them, it's pretty crazy.  It can take up to a week (sometimes more) to start pinning, but when they do you can see their growth very clearly and so there's no anxiety.  Have fun

well first off you are still under the wait time for pins, 4 days is nothing to worry about. 78F is fine as long as you keep it at that, make sure to put a thermometer in the tub so you can check it. the cakes will raise the temp a little. also im worried about your dunking time, 48 hours is pushing it. the recomended dunk is 12-24 hours. ive heard to much longer can drown the cakes, but dont quote me on that. also your light cycles worry me. try your hardest to get them 12/12 as this is the recomended procedure, bu tto be honest i dont know what your light cycle will do cause ive never heard of anybody doing this. keep me updated if it turns out good. GL and peace
