    #3498530 - 12/14/04 06:43 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

How can I salvage this?  maybe cut out the rot and dry it like crazy with some sulphur?

how can I cut it without spreading the rot?
the roots are dead

Woah :frown:

Thats a serious case of rot, I don't know if you could save that plant. The only thing I can think of would be a areole graft from the unaffected side. If you could remove the rot I don't think there would be enough plant left to keep growing, it looks like the growth tip is damaged also.

Wait for someone with more experience in these matters because I've never dealt with a case of rot that bad.

I dont have anything to graft with, except a pedro that is in it's dormant stage :frown:

ah.
shit happens. what have you done? too much water or too much light?
it is possible (not a sure shot though) to graft onto dormant rootstocks but rejection often happens...
in your place i would not attempt to graft, i would try to save it by letting it dry throughly for many days, reduce a bit the light exposure, i've already seen lophs in very bad shape come back to life... they're tough guys.

Personally, I would cut it from its dead roots and cut off all the rot and try grafting it on a columnar cactus. If you feel that the pedro that you have wouldn't work. Then maybe you should just go to your local Home Depot or other place with a nursery and buy a healthy actively growing columnar cactus and graft it onto that. Good luck my friend.

if it were me i would up root clean dirt off cut away rot let callous and replant in drier dirt. probably gonna die but theres a chance it will be fine.

maybe a less organic dirt, theres wood in that stuff, and just use a sand type of mix.

Welcome to the Shroomery. I agree. Usually I would say cut out the rot, but in this case it's probably best to cut off the healthy bits and do an areole graft, (which would be hard since it's the rest period, but this looks bad.) and hope that the bottom recovers.
