It means that an item is safe/possible to use in a pressure cooker.

Theres a test..an animation in the FAQ's. Drop a drop of water on it and if it boils completly away within 2-3 seconds, then its hot enough. The animation shows this happening if your still unsure. Other then that buy a different PC. It may also be a rocker..you need to count how many times it rocks.
I sure hope your PC didnt come with instructions because if you didnt even bother to read the instructions before asking questions....
Back on topic... Glass and metal are ok in the PC but some plastics arent. The jars (damn expensive and I didnt even check shipping, probably through the roof) would be ok, but I dont know about the lids. I think they are but not sure.

neither do i. i just wait for the rocker to rock back and forth ever so slowly to intermittently(sp?) moderately and when that process starts i time like 1.5 hours till i turn off the heat.

The jars that I found today at walmart seemed to have a tapered...more narrow opening that may be unsuitable for growing. The were of the kerr brand.

You wont find quarts at walmart untapered. Its not a problem for grains..cakes should be done with 1/2 pints and there should be no issue finding jars at walmart that work..I havnt seen any 1/2 pints that wouldnt (they could exist but I havnt seen them) slide cakes out easy..they use regular lids. Quarts are all tapered in though..you can even get the regular lidded quarts but widemouth lids and jars make it easier to get out the grain.

the post said for those that can not find them locally. There are places without wal mart.

Number 6 is polystyrene, I certainly wouldnt be putting styrofoam cups in any high temp situations.
PP is number 5 which is the autoclavable kind and certainly can be boiled. I'm well aware of this fact...but unless you want to shell out 40 bucks for a dozen jars (plus shipping) to check the bottom of the lid and see if theres a 5 in the triangle, I'm not checking and I therefore dont know for sure that the lids are autoclavable. Again, they mention them withstanding high temps if you get the glass jars so I'm assuming the lids would withstand high temps as well, though they dont specifically say that.
Perhaps you should take another peak at your chart
