red dots in jars above substrate material

If red dots are seen in jars above substrate material what would that usually be? A type of bacteria? Could the bacteria be finding it's way into the jars through the sealed lid if it is seen starting to grow a good bit after the mycelium is already spreading? Would there be any way to deal with the problem or scrape off the contam portions and still use the colonized substrate? Any ideas would be appreciated.

If you're using metal lids, it may be rust from your lids
