What Kind Of Light

What type of light is ok to initiate pinning? I was thinking of using a 20 watt halogen light.. 12 hrs / day on / 12 hrs off.. also once the pinning starts and i see heads forming.. do i keep the light on 12/12 ? And is it ok to leave the lid off for 12 hrs to give the light? or do i have to get the light into the terrarium somehow? The terrarium is transparent on the sides but will that be enough light on it's own ?

The light source does not matter as long as is does not raise the temp too much. If you can see the casings than you have enough light. The light here just tells the fruits where to grow.

I wouldn't suggest keeping the lid off that long..a sudden drop in humidity can cause the pins to prematurely rot and/or not grow. Also an invitation to contams... A well angled light should work fine. I also use a transparent container and the only problem I have is the shrooms not growing straight up(but fairly straight nonetheless). 8-12 hrs is plenty in my experience.

Don't worry about the light, they are not plants, they get virtually nothing from the light other than a sense of direction. Stamets says blue light helps promote morphosis but in my tests, I've never noticed a difference. It's the humidity and temp, esp. humidity that you want to keep an eye on.

The light tells the pins where to grow? Are you saying that pins will grow where ever the light is directed?

if you put the light at the top the mushrooms will grow up, if you put the light on the side the mushrooms will grow sideways. A light is not really needed, if you keep the FC just below the window in a spare room the mushrooms will grow towards the window. Simple really.
