light, heat, and alkaloids...
    #349439 - 06/26/01 04:12 PM (23 years, 7 months ago)

question --

scientifically, is it light or heat that destroys the alkaloids in p. cubensis...im not sure my fan setup will dry them up to a crisp and i was going to place an ikea desk lamp a foot or so above them and just leave it there -- i was monitoring the temp like this and it was approx 85 degrees fahrenheit with the lamp in position...if this won't harm the shrooms, ill continue doing it...but if it's the light that harms the alkaloids, i was thinking i would put a black t-shirt on top of them and x-fer the heat better...is there any scientific evidence that proves light or heat (with my setup, 85* F) to be severely damaging--or more damaging than the fan method--to the alkaloids in the drying process?

It's the heat or the heat emitting from a light. 85 degrees should be ok. If the air in your room is not humid, they should dry in a day or two. You can split the bigger ones for a faster job. Do you have a small fan? Point that at them for a proper air dry.
