New Pastuerization Tek (Maybe)
    #349438 - 06/26/01 06:12 PM (15 years, 10 months ago)

ANyone ever feel that the whole pillowcase steam-bath thing was a hugh pain in the ass? Well, maybe im just extremely fucking lazy, but I do my pasteurizing different.

Materials needed (besides what youre pasteurizing):
1 pot big enough to hold the material that needs to be past. (w/lid)
1 pot slightly larger than the first
Water
Optional thermometer

Its simple. Im not sure if this is an original idea, but here goes.

Get your material moistened to the proper water content. Put it in pot #1. Put the lid on. Fill pot #2 with water, and submerge pot 1 inside pot 2. (Use common sense) Turn the flame on your stove on low-to-medium. You want the temp to be from about 150-175. Let this cook for about 15 minutes. Take the lid off of pot #1 and feel the material to test for temperature. If it is in the approximate temp range, put the lid back on and cook for one hour.

This is essentially a double boiler. This is how I pasteurize my material. A lot of material cant be past. at once, unless you have a huuuuuuuuuge pot. This is the tek I use, and it has always worked.

any questions, comments, concerns? Please voice your opinion.

another benefit this adds is that your material is already at proper moisture content when its done!

Sorry, but that's the way I've been doing it all along. You forgot the aluminum foil on pot # 2. Simmer for up to 2 hours, depending on size of batch. Clever boy.
