Gymnopilus in Karo?
    #3494291 - 12/13/04 10:51 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

For the last couple of years I've been finding these mushrooms.

[Unidentified species of active Gymnopilus]

In an attempt to spread them around a little bit I've been putting their spores in a plastic spray bottle with water and praying down suitable looking logs, but I've seem no mushrooms on the new logs. I really wasn't trying to cultivate them, more like just giving nature a helping hand.

Yesterday I read in the Hunting forum that someone had used a similar technique with wood loving Psilocybes, but he had added Karo syrup to the water and was actually spreading mycelium around.

My question is does anyone know if the liquid Karo tek will work for Gymnopilus, or will I be the first one to try?

Secondly, what do you think about this guerrilla growing tek overall? It seems to me that it would be very prone to contam. Could it be improved by adding hydrogen peroxide to the mix?

Thanks for any comments.

Improve: yes

Make fool proof: no..

I don't know what the contam rate is but I beleive that wiccan_seeker made a bed of cyans and did it by adding myc. to cardboard and then pulverizing it and making a spray out of the myc. or somthing similar. Karo would add nutes to the myc. I would maybe try carving a spot IN the log, as myc. likes surface area right? I think that you could put some karo lc with some steril sawdust/aldermix and wax it over a lil to make it a little bit more secure. I'd be interested in a print or somthing other of a culture  pm'd

A fresh hole would be best.. i can see how that would actualy allow the myc to have first dibs in the newly exposed wood

:pm: me if you have questions about lasers

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

As it seems no advanced cult mods are online atm I'll take it upon me to lock this before it goes further south.
