Casings...need advice
    #3494115 - 12/13/04 10:25 PM (11 years, 11 months ago)

Hey, I currently have 5 pint sized pf tek jars that are fully colonized(7 if you count rotini jars too). I want to get huge yields, but I only have acess to hay, so would a bulk grow even be worth it? I'm hoping to get at least a pound or so...if possible. So what do you think, should I just case all 7 jars in a huge casing or go for the bulk grow with just hay? How much difference would the hay make to the yields?

Thanks in advance. :mushroom2:

All depends on how much risk you want to take. Personally, if I was going to grow I would prolly try the hay. Worth a try...

good luck.

and next time, search the forums and the webpage.

and for those of you that are going to say "that's for straw, not hay"... it'll work the same.

Yeah, but how much difference would there be in yields?

Your hoping for something your not going to get. A pound of fresh mushrooms is alot...expect an 1/8th per cake per flush for like 2-3 flushes and maybe a few more mushrooms after that. You could spawn to bulk...make probably 2 decent sized casings with 7 1/2 pints as spawn but I don't know how well Hay would do. You should use straw at least..that could maybe pull you a half pound-pound over 3 flushes from 2 nice straw casings spawned from 7 1/2 pints of spawn.

To get a pound of mushrooms you need to grow TEN fresh pounds. This is only about 3.5-4 ounces and is 7 QUARTS of rye (a quart rye is equal to like 4 cakes or so)

I think you misunderstood, I don't plan on birthing any of the jars as cakes. I'm going to either make a normal 7 jar casing or spawn them to hay. If I did the bulk grow, would I get a much larger yield? Thanks
