about a year ago, i had a file server going thru IRC, and then one day the internet was shut off, and thier was a letter in the mail saying that the ip blah blah blah "had movies available to download"... so they said if it happened again, they would not offer service any more.... so i didnt download anything in a long time, maybe a good 2 weeks, and then i realised that thier were just better ways of getting movies, like the newsgroups... then torrents
does anyone use peer guardian? i've noticed that my download speed go up when it's off, but when it's on, it blocks a lot of connections... mostly to organizations that would really have good up speed.

This is a great reason to use Azureus with the Safepeer plugin (or just get Protowall).

Cogeco did the same thing to a buddy of mine, but they didn't actually do anything. I think they do it just to scare ya.

people need to start using a decent firewall (like outpost pro) that has the ability to log every IP address that connects to your computer by date. If they get these letters, they need to forward them to bluetack.co.uk as well as the relevent firewall logs, so that bluetack.co.uk and block their IP ranges to prevent this from happening to someone else.

TV shows, if they have commercials still in them, are from my pov ok, it's the advertisers that get pissy with the broadcasters, they paid for the ad to run and if it gets distro'ed without their message, they feel like they are loosing money

I think we're missing a vital bit of info here...
the reasoning that 'downloading a movie you already paid for is perfectly legal' doesn't apply here, because bittorrent also distributes while you download.
so while it may be legal for you to download it, it isn't legal for you to distribute it... it would seem to be a clear violation of columbia's copyright, and not defensible by merely proving ownership of the dvd

here lemme give a bit of advice here.
DONT DOWNLOAD NEW MOVIES AND NEWLY RELEASED STUFF THRU ANY TORRENT SOURCE!!!.
use newsgroups for that.
Bit torrent is still great for things like TV shows OLD movies, old rare puter games ect.. et..
I download gigs of tv show stuff a month thru torrent and never any issues. They collect IPs on the new released stuff. Movie companies are now paying other companies to do the collection for them.
Also if anyone is using the standard bit torrent client uninstall it immediatly and get yet Another Bit Torrent client (abc). Its #1.

If you are downloading a torrent u can not mask yer ip address.
To be downloading from me(or another client) they MUST know yer ip address and i can collect any of that information with any client that still has advanced details turned on.
Thats one big problem with torrent. Anyone can look and see all the IP addresses of people downloading. You are not very hidden bit torrenting.

How would using a different bittorrent client make any difference, isn't it all the same protocol?
