LOTR & tripping
    #3490952 - 12/13/04 02:09 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

I plan to trip with my gf on about 3.5 gram for me, and 2.5 grams for her, while watching Lord of the Rings.
Should we watch the movie or not? its long, so that might be a good or a bad thing, plus i was wondering about all the strange characters in the movie, would they be absolutely fucking us up?

MANY MANY MANY people are about to post telling you NOT to watch a movie because:

It isn't nature
You can't learn anything from it
etc...
etc...
etc...

If that's what you want to do i say GO FOR IT! I've personally watched every LOTR movie while I was tripping and I enjoyed it alot.

I think it's a great idea. :sun:

It isn't nature.  It's a good fantasy story.  You aren't supposed to learn anything from your environment, you learn from your experience (which may be affected by your environment).

Anywhom, that said, watch it, but don't be surprised if you find yourself wanting to do other things...

Indeed. You may PLAN to watch it, but don't be surprised if you find yourself staring at the carpet in awe instead...

If you're gonna watch a movie while tripping, don't watch one you've seen. It'll get boring.. fast.

Waking Life and Animatrix are real intense when tripping.

I'm sure if I was tripping hard enuff I could enjoy LOTR but when I was living at this kid's house his father would watch it every fucking day and its all I ever heard from my room.

... an extension to my final point I neglected: and if you find yourself wanting to do other things, by $DIETY, do them! Don't lock yourself into watching the movie; let watching the movie be an opening to your experience. If you sit through the whole thing, so be it, but don't FORCE yourself to watch it.

I saw all three at the theater while tripping and loved them. Certain movies lend themselves to a trippy experience. These are of that kind. I'd dose right before starting the movie and let the trip come on while watching. When the movie ends, you'll be about at your peak if not there yet and have plenty of time to enjoy other things.

Do it, the scenery and the characters are absolutely breathtaking. I saw the first one in an imax theater on 3.5 grams  ...i don't recommend that, i was fucked, but it was still great. There are some very intense moments that might get to you, but i think you will enjoy yourself

The music is the only thing that SLIGHTLY got to me. It's so fucking epic... It kept making me feel like I was on the verge of something...

The thing that struck me like a ton of bricks is how immensely cruel these movies are.

If you for instance empathize with the Orcs/Uruk-Hai for one tiny second then you are almost doomed to watch the movies with a facial expression of smelling a rotting fish. I happen to empathize with the underdog (even if they are as piss-ughly as Peter Jackson made them) and if you see the movie in that light the "heroes" are utterly anti-heroic and the Elves are a bunch of holier-then-thou nazi's merrily entangled in a genocidal Holy War against an Empire of Evil.
After you have empathized with the Orcs it watches like a propaganda movie

There is great beauty and great ugliness and injustice in the movies and the saga itself. I lay this emphasis because it can give you a granddaddy of a Bad Trip if you get in tune with that.

If you want to watch LOTR while tripping, watch The Fellowship Of The Rings, LOTR I. It has the highest beauty-to-ugliness ratio and the soundtrack is the best of the movies, plus you see the finest landscapes and most varied plotline:thumbup:

I like The Two Towers best, as I did the books. I've always been a great fan of LOTR. I was always sympathetic toward Gollum, but never the Orcs or any of the other servants of Sauron.

i saw return of the king on half an 1/8
it was good, very intense.
Although some parts made me sad, because certain characters were suffering...and i get really empathetic on mushrooms
Just had to remind myself that in reality, they were just actors playing out a screen play.

I was empathetic to the orcs in return of the king because i saw how lost they became once sauron was destroyed. didn't change the effect of the movie or the heroics of the hobbits for me though
