I had never heard much of bill hicks besides some clips of his on some Tool tracks. I just bought a book called love all the people, or something, and it has alot of his stage material and other writings. Really funny shit, as im sure alot of you know. Im wondering if there are other artists out there like him. I mean, i know there are, but im looking for a more comprehensive list than the one that pops up in my head. thanks for any suggestions

Try Lenny Bruce. He paved the way to give foul mouthed comedians the right to talk about anything... anyways
If you guys like Bill Hicks... check out this HBO special called "REVELATIONS". It's possibly the best stand-up you'll ever see. Keep in mind, when watching, that he knew he was dying... It's pretty creepy.

Doug Stanhope sometimes reminds me of Bill Hicks. Not all the time though. He is much more offensive than Bill Hicks.

my friend just bought that DVD and brought it over the other night
it was fucking badass.
The one standup bit where he was in London had all kinds of new shit in it I hadn't seen before, because the old copy I had of that performance was edited.

Two words......George....Carlin.
Bill Hicks is great, however.

Talking about Bill Hicks here is like talking about Tool or Radiohead or Leary.
Yeah everyone here loves him. It goes without saying.

You're joking right?
Carlin has been around since the 60's.
No offense meant at all. But Carlin is king.

Hicks has gone on record as saying that he was a fan of Carlin's early stuff.
There are loads of bootleg downloads are on the web if ya search for them - I've ended up with a collection of about 20 different gigs - sure there's a lot of overlaps but little inspired gems here and there make it all worthwhile.
His last complete performances is awesome, he does this whole extended piece about trying to get his dad to do shrooms!

Really? I just downloaded that special and thought it was pretty lame. I have heard very little Hicks, but this special sounded to me like a bunch of ranting. As I was watching it I kept getting the feeling that he needed to move on and like he spent too much time on a single subject.
I won't even go on about the annoying microphone sound effects throughout the special.
