Dripshield...

...I get the feeling from reading the MB that this is unnecessary, as long as you mist lightly, as on an upward arc.

Anyone have input on this?

The drip shields acts to protect the underlying contents from heavy/big droplets of water. Any way you can find of doing that without a drip shield will achieve the same desired effect.

So is a drip shield a must if hand spraying? I am hoping to use a humidifier, but we'll see how money is after Christmas.

Thanks for the quick feedback!

I dont use a drip shield and I hand spray daily. Like Liveby said dont spray the actual mushies, and shoot for in between flushes if you can.

So even an arched spray or humidifier doesn't guarantee that a large condensed drop will fall from the lid directly on the cake. Hmm. Ok, I think I will try to add one. I only ask as it seems to be the most finicky part of the build.

An upward arch carefully aimed will work. A careless downward blast onto the culture wouldnt work. The dripshield is there to protect the culture from careless blasts of h2o. Hence why mmgg/PF tek is for beginners.

You seem intelligent, go with what makes sense.
