Filter paper gas exchange / humidification question
    #3489302 - 12/13/04 03:19 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Just a quick question from a dumb noobie. Sorry, I couldn't seem to find the answer to this particular question.

Can a hole cut out of the lid / side of a terrarium covered with filter paper:

a)  help with CO2 release/02 intake, negating the need to fan at all or (fan so often). And if so,
b)  will this also end up lowering the humidity within the terrarium.

I would be most likely using standard PF Tek: MMGG ingredients for my first grow. Any and all help is appreciated

a) Two filtered holes works good for air circulation. Unless your fruiting container is big enough to hold lots of Oxygen (doubletub), you should still fan as often as you normally would.

b) If the relative humidity of the fresh air coming in is less than the humidity in the fruiting chamber it will lower it, yes. Just make sure you mist alittle more to compensate. If you feel you dont have enough time to mist to ample rH everyday, the shroomery has a nice FAQ archive on mushroom cultivation, in your case, humidifcation techniques.

Ok that makes sense. Thanks for the help! So then, since it still needs to be fanned just as much (and misted a tad more), what is the purpose of adding the filtered breathing holes? Does the constant (contam free) circulation cause better flushes than fanning alone?

Filtered breathing holes with fanning add more circulation and less CO2 buildup = better than fanning alone.
