Electricity consumption and the power bill
    #3488771 - 12/13/04 01:02 AM (13 years, 4 months ago)

I once had a formula for calculating a closely estimated power bill based on your electricity use.

Personally, for the life of me, I can't even remember the units of power/wattage/whatever and their measures.

Can anyone give me some examples or help to put things in at least a vague perspective for me?

Utility companies charge you in kilowatt hours(kWh). 1000 watts is a kilowatt. Prices per kilowatt hour vary from place to place. Lets say for example yours is $.08/kWh, so if your setup uses 500 watts then your cost is $.04 per hour of usage. So if that's run 24/7 your weekly cost would be $6.72. You can call your utility company and find out the exact cost for your area.
