tell me about deep scratching

I read a post about deep scratching an over wet casing.( I was misting everyday -duh
so much for RTFM) I sterilized a knife and
dug down to the substrate and loosened it so as to expose the dry "alive" substrate to
the casing. Basically starting it over -I hope. I confess I may have also over watered
a double casing on my cakes and killed off some of the mycelium...so based on the
'deep scratching" concept I scratched down through 2 cakes as well to see if the
deeper mycelium would now start growing out to the casing better and flush again.
I'm learning from mistakes.... so when my EQ's are ready.. I don't blow it.
Does deep scratching really work or just in theory? Thanks.

ok... here's how monkey's deep scratch:
1. sterilize a fork w/ alcohol or your choice of steaming or pc
2. COOL the fork off if you just got it out of a PC or a pot
3. look at your fork, how big is it??? if it's bigger than a regular dinner fork then you have to start over (heheh should of put this at the top!)
4. pick a spot on your casing
5. take your fork and shove it into the casing untill you can't see the individual "forks / spikes?"
6. twist about 5-15 degrees
7. pull out and move some casing in
8. repeat the process every 1/2inch or so
9. mist and store for colonization
that's it... peace

Do the monkeys also scratch like this after picking or should light scratching be done in that case?

Thanks.. hmm I think I more than scratched.. I gouged..trying to "crack open" the cakes a bit under
the casing. If they survive and flush ...I'll be a monkey's auntie. Let ya know if cakes too can
be successfully scratched in a few days. Also. #9. Mist again?? YIKES.. that's how I got in trouble in
the first place.. ok.."he who knows and knows that he knows is wise follow him" and his fork..

This is basicly what your supposed to do if you cased your cakes whole. Make sure that everything is nice and moist and you should see growth within the next 2 days.

Tis True Tis True!!
Mycelium is appearing in the scratched/gouged casing. I left the lid open all day because
the casing is still wet. There's perlite in the chamber, drained off water the past few
days as much as possible. Even with the lid off the damn humdity was still up at 90%.
I'm fanning and drying.. and mycelium is coming. ( btw, it's a very clean, quiet room, that
will have Lysol permanently engrained in the walls I think). The cakes I scratched
are recuperating too. Some of what I thought were abhorts grew some and I think I might
have some shrooms tomorrow. So I did get a 2nd flush.. uneven for sure.
By damn.. the monkeys know how to do it. Thank yuuuuuuu Again.. if you read this.
