Flame me if you must, but I can't bite my tongue.

On the edge of Tyvek envelopes it says " This packaging is property of the US postal service and is provided solely for use in sending Express mail. Misuse may be a violation of fedreal law"

Sure, its just a warning, but tyvek is cheap. Why steal it from a federal agency? Cutting an envelope for mushroom filtration wouldn't be an excusable use. Especially if that someone was growing Psilicibin. Heh, the federal tyvek charge might get a person in more trouble than growing alone.

besides legal issues, Polyfil proves to be just as good if not a bit better.. Anno's study proved this http://fungifun.org/pf/tyvek.htm

Just rip apart a pillow..

If you want to use tyvek, get some House wrap from a hardware store

I punched the needle thru the tyvek for the jars i've done with it, then put a single piece of foil over it. If you are paranoid about contams, snip the ends of band-aids off and use them, they come sterile.

First off I make a quarter inch hole in the lid towards the outside. I then place the lid over the tyvek, screw it on tightly and PC. After I PC I unscrew the lid 1/4th a turn and punch the sterile needle through the tyvek and innoc. Afterwards I retighten enough so the lid's hole slides over an unpunctured portion of tyvek. For extra precaution you might place a coffee filter over the jar secured by a rubberband.

TWO (2) holes in lid.

Innoc through one hole & tape over

If you want to get that technical then he "could" have bought the envelopes from a number of places other than "stealing" them from the post office as you suggested, and Who said anything about illegal mushrooms? You said that...

if you read closer I said "Especially if that someone was growing Psilicibin" I did not imply that anyone was.. But taken into consideration this isn't the edible forum, it is assumed by most.

I read posts often of people urging others to use postal envelopes as free tyvek. Some even go as far as having the postal service deliver them free envelopes to their homes.. Worst of all, tyvek is available otherplaces for cheap, and alternatives are available.

Using Postal envelopes is in direct violation of federal law. If by some freak reason, police searched someones house, and found Postal envelopes used as filters, the case can be legally turned over to the federal government, Whose penalties are far worse than most state laws.

It just seems like a stupid thing to do, since the gain will only be pennies on the dollar.
