Increased Myc Growth Speed....
    #3488034 - 12/12/04 10:46 PM (12 years, 4 hours ago)

Hey All. AFOAF inoculated three mycobags; 2 grain based and one rye based.

After 9 days of peep-addict myc-porn watching, one of his bags began to show myc growth...the grain based...the rye based and grain based #2 have yet to show any signs of taking.

Now here comes the interesting part to the observation. When AFOAF inoculated that particular bag, the needle accidentally stabbed into one of the soft grains, completely concealing the opening at the end of the needle...my friend figured, ahh what the hell...gotta start experimenting some time..why not now at the beginning? He went ahead and injected about 2 CC's straight into the grain...in seeped out of the grain and down the wall of the bag.

The small bit of myc that has shown through is tightly clustered around the grains at the injection point, I am assuming around that particular grain in question...

Although it is impossible to tell if that "injected" grain is the source of earlier myc growth or not...the three bags have been kept in identical conditions.

Any thoughts?

very feesable considering it had a direct nutrient to feed off of. but dont wory bout no signs of mycelium yet. 3-6 days for spore germination 5-7 days for signs of growth. so anywhere from 8-13 days is average at perfect conditions.

Quite likly that you didnt shake the syringe. Its also quite likly that the water content is off..that will cause slow germination alot. I hope you havnt touched the bags except maybe the one showing signs? Be carful if you move the bags youll disturb them while trying to germinate. Bags need to be left alone and mashed up at about 10% colonized and mayber again at about 60% if needed.

By the way, rye is grain..along with popcorn, WBS, millet, and everyother whole grain people use.

Oh I'm not worried...I figured I would give it two weeks before I started to worry, and longer if I keep up my quarter-n-hour peeps

But then if "direct nutrient to feed off of" can be accomplished by injecting directly into your grain kernel, why reccomend shooting it down the sides of your container?

Ahh and rye is a grain, this I know...but isn't the grain part called a "berry"?....Ahh well. So be it. I have 3 grain based bags

I did shake my syringes very well...Also as far as the 9 days go, this post isn't complaining about that... I only mentioned it for reference purposes. I am happy with my timlines....for now

They are rye berries..that is the type of grain it is. Or rye for short.

I don't believe the cause for early germination was directly injecting into the grain kernal..its reccomended you shoot it down the sides because it will drip farther and quicker against the bag then in the middle of the substrate through the grain. The more inoculation points (every point spore water touches a grain) there are the better..I would be willing to bet that repeated, you wouldnt get the same results.

My guess is that it's a fluke. While temp/light conditions may be the same on the exterior of the bag, there's no telling if the conditions on the interior are identical in terms of water content, inoculation points, etc.

Well then sounds like I need to try some experiments with controlled testing perameters...has anyone tried anything like this to save me some time?

(I am trying to figure out if there is any benefit in injections directly into the grain...)
