Diminishing Value of the Dollar
    #3487105 - 12/12/04 04:52 PM (19 years, 3 months ago)

I dont want to sound like I am anti-America or anything because I defend the US on every issue that I can... but come on, WHAT THE FUCK! How did this moron get re-elected?

Because America was convinced that the only viable alternative was the moron he was running against.

What makes you think
A. That this is necessarily a bad thing and
B. That the president could or
C. should interfere in currency markets

Its not a bad thing for countries that use the Euro. Its a good thing for them. Im not questioning if the president should interfere with currency market, but he did interfere and that hurt our economy.

one thing is for sure ..if the dollar does crash..rove&co will find some way to blame it on the liberals and/or osama bin goldstein...the resulting wave of right-wing radicalism might get bush a 3rd term and possibly worse...

What specific actions did Bush take that you categorize as "interfering with the currency market"?

I'd like to add that it's the Federal Reserve which is largely responsible for our diminishing currency, and you can't really fault Bush for that, though his tax cuts have made the government increasingly reliant on it.

Reliant on what? Our currency?

Reliant on it as a source of revenue. In other words, since Bush is unwilling to cut spending at the same rate he cuts taxes, he has to have the Federal Reserve print more money.

The marked up paper they print and distribute are certainly a source of revenue for the government. They allow the government to continue utterly insane levels of spending without levying direct (and politically deletarious) taxes against the people.

I didn't think the Federal Reserve printed money. I thought they only set interest rates. The Treasury Dept. prints money, I thought.

Yup... 4 more years of Bush rules, and the Canadian dollar will be worth more than the US dollar.

How about his increase in defense spending after 9/11 which was around 49.5% if I am not mistaken. How about how when he did that he didnt decrease spending. How about how he continues to increase funding to the war in Iraq and he does not cut funding from anywhere else. Those are all factors in the value of the dollar. It all relates back to the economy.
