West Indies Hunting?
    #3485029 - 12/12/04 03:54 AM (12 years, 2 months ago)

As usual, ill be traveling to Antigua in the West Indies again for Xmas and Newyears this year. Does anyone hunt in the islands? If so, what kind of species might I expect to find? Ill have access to a LOT of moist acreage... any particular soil content or foliage that might increase my chances of finding anything? There is a goat farm down the road I will be checking out. Ill be taking my digicam so if I find anything interesting Ill definitely be posting pictures. Any information is appreciated. Thanx!

On a side note, If I cant find anything, how hospitable might the climate be for introducing a species? Is the salt content in the air/soil going to effect my chances? I'm right next to the beach there... but its a private area, so I can move inland if necessary

If its a tropical region you may be able to find cubes or copes but i dont know for sure if they grow there but they do grow in tropical climates. For your question on introducing a species it would depend on the mushroom your introducing. Its nice to meet you man iv never see you around.

Im really unfamiliar with those islands.

Like the poster above said, if you are venturing to a tropical/sub-tropical climate, you will have a possiblity of finding several active species in pastureland/dung.

Where are the islands?

the west indies is basicly the carrabian (sorry for the spelling already... im posting all this from my cellphone). yes... the climate is VERY tropical. OK... thanks for the info... I was hoping someone may have hunted in antigua, barbados, nevis, san croy or there abouts. There's an island that's inhabited only by goats a short boat ride from our dock.. so ill be checking there first most likely.

You might try doing an amazon.com book search audubon (Field guide) for the West Indies or a similar, general name for the area.

I'm not very familiar with Antigua, but I'd imagine that Cubensis and Cope(Pan) cyanescens both grow there.
