A spiritual experience is a life-changing experience that broadens and enhances ones view of the cosmos as a whole, and makes one more grateful to be a part of it

Spiritual discussion is discussion that tries to communicate the views of the cosmos

Defining spiritual alone is harder, not because of the concept but because of semantics

spirit is from greek, meaning to breathe. I think a working definition shouldn't stray far from this: How about:

Of or relating to the human relationship with the dynamic processes of Life and the Universe.

I tryed to make mine encompassing for all. My personal definition would have a little less to do with the universe and more with nature. Some would prefer a more unifying definition, but I think there is more to spirituality than trancendental unification.

then how do you know that is spiritual? how do we all know what is spiritual and what is not? by what others do? what others say? what others teach? does that teaching free you from conditions of your mind thus helping attain freedom?

flawed... let me get this strait.. you are saying:

Who ever said spirituality needs to be generalized? Why can't my definition be good enough for me?

You are being anything but objective with that "does that teaching free you from conditions of your mind thus helping attain freedom? "

Why does humanity need to be overcome to count as spirituality?

Who ever said spirituality needs to be generalized?

well we all defined what spirituality is so that must mean we have a generalization on what spirituality means to us.

Why can't my definition be good enough for me?

didn't say it wasn't. just coming to my own understanding through interaction of others.

Why does humanity need to be overcome to count as spirituality?

i don't know. please tell me.

to me being spiritual is believing in ones self and belifs. doesnt have anything to do with god or gods in my eyes. i consider myself to be spiritual but i dont believe in any form of god. i am in touch with nature i have my beliefs, which are strong, and i follow my beliefs to my best ability.

no idea what an oxford type definition is, but thats what it means to me.

""does that teaching free you from conditions of your mind thus helping attain freedom? "

No, you tell me. You said it. Why is the above question of any import to spirituality? I say it is not.

But anyway... to answer your question on how we know what is spiritual without anyone else's knowledege, or disregard for their knowledge:

Because besides emotion, spirituality is probably the most subjective concept we have.
