My newest creation
    #3483377 - 12/11/04 09:49 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Well I made something LIKE a tub in tub(sorta)

MY jars are held in place by wires, and the little bit of natural bouncy the air inside provides.

I am using a little fish tank covered in garbage bags, and I know that sounds getto but it looks real slick.........for a fish tank covered in garbage bags

I found a sheet of glass to go over top to, so its light tight, and my jars seem to love the high RH, and I will agree that the biggest factor in quick growth is water content.

wet sticky jars are HELL, the mycelium seems to have a hard time colinizing it, if you have been soaking your WBS etc for 2 days, .....just throw it out, your wasting your time.

I will try to get some pics of my setup soon.

but basically its something like this........

--------------------------Glass lid------------------------------------
--------------------------top of the aquarium--------------------------

[Jar lids above the water] [Jar lids] [Jar lids]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~water line~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[more then 3/4th's of each jar is below the water line]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bottom of aquarium.
And of course the fish tank heater is in there to, keeping everything a nice fuzzy 85F
I keep the water as low as possible, without putting the heater in danger, so that the jars have room to breathe.
sounds pretty cool, do you put some h202 in the water? and where do the wires come into play?
Yes I use H2O2 , and soon I need to drain the water and put in fresh water, as H2O2 will only keep warm water clean for awhile.
But even with cons like draining I am still happy with it, I have a 3 Brazilian jars that are almost completly done, after about 8 days of growing on average.
how about to make it easier to drain you make this with a rubbermade tub and on the bottom creat some type of valve to drain when you want?
Well I would LIKE to do that, in fact I wanted to make a Tub-in-Tub, but since I ended up with a fish tank heater that wasent "fully" submersible, i used a small fish tank, and hooked my jars around the top with wires that run outside that tank where they are taped in place. (thus my jars float in water heated to a perfect 85F)
I realize even with this heater I COULD, use a rubbermaid style tub,(so that I could drain easier), but this fish tank is already working quite well, and as long as I work quick I wont end up with water in my mouth, and hey at least its not gas. :wink:
I need a tube and a bucket.
another positive to this is even temps throughout the jars casue of the constant temp of the water as oposed to the air in a tub that can change when opening and what not.
Exactly,and it shows in the growth of my jars........I am NEVER going back to a heatpad, the constant temp and the RH make a huge difference, I did see many Pro's to this setup, but I admit the Cons.
I have tipped the jars and when using a Tyvek filter its ok, its not fun cleaning the water off the top, but the jar isnt toast the second it tips.
