Reishi Mycobag Kit
    #3481847 - 12/11/04 03:46 PM (12 years, 2 days ago)

Today I got my mycobag with a reishi culture. I plan on innoculating it tonight, but had just a few questions.

I just moved to Los Angeles, so I'm not sure how dry it actually is compared to Phoenix. Anyhow, I was wondering if there's no need to somehow humidify the substrate more. Also, I will be going to Phoenix from the 22nd to the 26th, and was wondering if it would be alright to just leave it in my apartment in LA. I was going to take it with me, but the 6 hour drive (probably more because of X-mas week) doesn't seem like it'd be so good for the mycelium.

I have a closet that's really close to my bathroom, and plan on leaving it on a top shelf there with the thermostat set to ~76 (I figure the mycelium produces its own heat, too, right?).

I'm hoping it'll be alright to just leave it for 3-4 days...any feedback?

Also, I was wondering if when I inoculate the substrate, if it might be beneficial to shake the bag (or maybe in a couple of days or something so the bag expands a little bit with air).

Do not think that this is going to be a problem. What do you think could happen to them ?

Shaking after inoculation is usually done in order to disperse the mycelium evenly which results in faster colonization.

Thank you for your response. I don't know what I thought would happen to them, but this is my first time growing any mushroom and was worried I might have overlooked something I might have to be doing while I was gone.

I know shaking can disperce the mycelium in jars and such, but was worried about if the bag would be up to the task.

Your post definitely settles my nerves a bit...I just wanted to make sure everything goes smoothly. Now I'm just worried about the thermostat in my apartment being accurate *lol*. Stupid little dial thermostat.

> Usually the cultures are not so sensitive to little temperature fluctuation.
Here the temperature also changes between 19-25 and it does not harm the mycelium.
You only might getting problems fruiting them when the temp is not within a certain range.

Ah...well that's good to know for now.  I don't mind if they don't fruit quickly, as long as they fruit   Just the idea of mycelium growing is satisfying...this is just my trial run...my little experiment.

Hello P.O.C. - try to make sure your heater doesnt fluctuate too wildly. I ordered the same thing and think my heater killed it - I think I set it to 28 C .I found it totally dried out in the middle of the bag.

Oh well - anyway good luck Dude .

Oh um-just realised your posts really old - what happend with the culture man ?
