hey bio, i bet all the artist u mentioned would rate themselves on a lower level than they would shpongle. shongle is simply amazing music, i also do enjoy hallucigen and infected mushroom (their album- converting vegitarians- is amazing, highly recomended). i enjoy alot of electronic music, aphex twin is also great but its not for everyone. there is really is a hugly vast amout of amazing electronic music and it bothers me when people assume that all it has to offer is cheese anthem trance or euro synth pop. Grateful Dead isn't the only music out there! explore the world of the synthisizer!

listen to what? the music that I prefer?
yes - I stopped not liking stuff that goes popular
when I was in jr. high.
if it's good, I embrace it.

I doubt that, considering two of the artists I mentioned specifically attacked trance music in interviews before - referring it to [something to the effect of] "boring, overproduced, not particuarly inventive."

yes, I think electronic music has vast potential as well. However, I do think 90% percent of the genre is total garbage. the 9% is quality. 1% is quite inspired.

Shpongle is beyond "electronic music" especially in Tales of the Inexpressable. It's in a world of it's own.

just curious - have you been exposed to much electronic music besides shpongle and others within their vein?

let me tell you all that making this ambient music is pretty simplistic. Get a synth with a sequencer and there you go. I have a Triton and that bitch will play awesome music with the push of a button along with the programming of a pattern. Make your own music and then argue who is better.

Anyone who thinks Shpongle is the best thing to hit electronic music, you have to look no further than the Warp Records lineup.

Autechre
Plaid
Boards of Canada
etc, etc.

All damn fine music that I think is much better than Shpongle.

its not about seeing the light. we are talking about music here bio and this is about preference. I have been a electronic music listener for some time and shpongle is one of my favorite artists. if you like other artists more, this is normal, but everyone sees the light in different kinds of music.

GratefulJim if you had actually been to a shpongle live act, you would know it is more than pressing a button, trust me.

yes there are many overrated artists out there but shpongle for one is not. they dont just put out albums, they put out masterpieces. they have changed so much in the psychedelic ambient music. they have influenced so much in music in general. formed of simon posford(the guy who created psytrance(transferring from goa trance) and raja ram (any psytrance head would know how significant he is to the psy community(even though his label tip world now produces some under quality stuff)) along with many other talents in the field.

dont just get stuck to shpongle, there are many other talents out there. as given in many of threads, check out aes dana, asura, carbon based lifeforms, adham shaikh, the infinity project, huva network, abakus, gaudi, jairamji, bluetech, ott, dub trees, celtic cross, emou, ishq, shulman, mystery of the yeti series etc

more on the ambient side without the psy touch, there are biosphere, brian eno, steve roach, namlook, robert rich, harold budd and many more

aphex twin, boards of canada, autechre, brothomstates, murcof, future sound of london, violet vision, the orb etc etc.

so the list can go on, there are a lot of talents out there. but does this mean when there are all these other kickass artists out there one still mentions shpongle a lot, that its overrated. no of course not. and I am pretty sure their 3rd album will prove this once more.

and I donyt like what infected mushroom for their last 2 albums. if you ask me, they are the ones who are commercial and overrated nowdays. when i started listening to psytrance, they were one of my favorite artists and still i real like their older stuff but they have just gone away from making psy music to making music for the masses(and by that i mean $$$).

I listen to anything I can get my hands on... If you wanna help me "see the light", give me a song or 2 to check out that you think will blow me away.
I pride myself on being open-minded to new music.

Haha yeah!  Adamist has a KORG, and we like to sit around and play and record our own music.  Ackooostic, Electric, drums, djembes, didges, recorders, mopeds, drum machines, key boardin', vocalizin and synergizin.

Mostly Adamist, me, and thePatient, but others do throw down tracks as well sometimes. Observe:  the Clean vibe

The site is under construction, as well as the creators and this is a pretty shitty quality link so you can hear a little bit of what we are talkin about...

I would have to say that Adamist and i listen to the music that is greated by ourselves and friends more often then we do other cds.

I don't know about arguing about who is better, but I definitely like hearing music created by peoples who arent sold to the labels

--------------------
A plethora of music aspirations control my temptations of future revelations beyond "now". The percussion, and the heart beat of my love and devotion. The rhythm goes beyond, prying into the third eye, releasing the creativity held so far inside. The melodicies, through the out of tune pianos and broken classical guitars...there lies a beauty. A beauty as prevelent as the fire inside. To release these energies is pure ecstacy, to deveop these gifts is sacred. The vocality, so pure as can be, shying away from herself, lies within me. For the underlying serenitity, this is what I live for. I plea for harmony, and nothing more. Music equals love. Creation of love leads to the procreativity of the World, and it's spirals and puddles prevailing.

Thats the way it should be... Listen to your own music. I have nothing recorded yet, but I have a Korg 16 track digi recorder as a planned purchase in the near future. I have my headphones on for 8 hours a day making my own music on the Triton.
