Picked too soon?

I recently picked around 5 that the veil had broken on, and from that general area of sprouting there were 4 other "pins" or baby shrooms popping up. However, after I picked the others, they seem to be regressing. Did I pick too soon, or is this a common occurance?

When the biggest ones are ready, they all are. Or very close to it.
Those little ones will not grow to be big ones unless they are a second flush.
