I smore water all I need?
    #3481092 - 12/11/04 11:39 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

I'm a newbie on my first grow and expected my jars to be colonized by now but they still need a couple of more days. Anyway, I've just mad a fruiting chamber with a 15 gallon rubbermaid container. I soaked perlie and lined the bottom. My question is--If my humidity is only at 70% should I add water to increase humidity or will something else be required? I have only the soaked perlite in there now and I put the light on for 12 hours and the humidity was only 70 after that time. So far all 5 jars are doing very well and I'm seeing no signs of infections. I didn't bake my perlite either, is this okay or am I taking a big chance? I researched these questions already but I find that the info on this site from EXPERIENCED growers is more beneficial. Peace.

Did you put the dry layer of perlite on top? All teks tell you this and it's the only way it works.

What kind of humidity guage are you using? If it is a little round petstore thing or other plastic model that cost less than $10, you may just be getting a bad reading.

If your fruiting chamber is sealed then I would suspect that you have a faulty hygrometer. They are notoriously inaccurate unless you shell out the ca$h for a good one.

There should be no need to add more water - too much can actually lower the rH. Your perlite should be wet, not submereged. Too much water will inhibit the wicking properties of the perlite.
