course vs fine vermiculite
    #3479695 - 12/11/04 01:38 AM (12 years, 10 hours ago)

I have checked the search and I come up with a post named "Coarse vs Fine Vermiculite Opinion". When I open it, the posts and replys dont appear. So Im asking the question again to find the differance.

Well, trust me, go with the fine, the only good i can see with the coarse is that it'll give you more gaps and allow more myc. growth but im not sure if you want so much...you could always test it out, just grow one cake with fine and the other with coarse...good luck...later

I've grown with both... just because course was all i could find locally at times. THey both worked fine. I just found better results with fine and that's what thousands of posts agree with. Who knows.

The only place fine verm is beneficial is with the verm barrier in the PFTek IMHO. It is detrimental when used as a casing and makes for a terrible surface structure and does not allow the casing to breath well at all. Different grade verms have different uses, remember there is also medium grade verm for all around use thats what I'd recommend and if you don't have any access to med. verm then by all means go get some coir and if thats somehow not an option then fine verm for barriers and course for casings although some course is very course so shop around as all course verm is not created equal. Fine can also be mixed with other grades of verm and coir to aid in water retention. GL
