Problems with needle and inoculation?
    #3478433 - 12/10/04 09:34 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

OK, I got these syringes (from TLG) and was knocking up some WBS and BRF jars tonight. I noticed when I took the cap off the syringes that the needles were very large bore compared to the syringes I had previously. I didn't think much of it and knocked up my WBS without incident. I started knocking up the BRF jars and immediately started having probs with the needle getting verm stuck in it to the point I could not get anything to come out. I repeatedly had to keep pulling it back out and clearing it. At one point I thought I had it all out and went to flame the needle and I don't know what happened exactly but it let off this loud pop (louder than they normally crackle a bit) and shot off a piece of something and when I looked at the end of the needle it was actually BENT, no more sharp tip. The only thing I could figure to do was to take the needle off the previous syringe and swap them, flaming and alcohol everything. I am very concerned about about my sterility and also I wasted a lot of spore water trying to get the needles unclogged. Is there a trick to this I don't know or something. I never had this trouble with the smaller bore syringes.

Anyone who says size doesn't matter has been seeing too many small shrooms!

yeah, moisture, in this case verm, will "pop" when heated.
I always pull the plunger back a bit and push on, it unclogs.
Can you sterilize and transfer the solution to a smaller ga. syringe?

when you insert the needle into the jar, try running the cut end against the
side of the jar, that should eliminate the clogs
